Stimulus: Round 2!

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

If you have not yet received your second stimulus payment - and you believe that you qualify for it - there is help! Follow the steps below to troubleshoot your stimulus payment.

TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR STIMULUS PAYMENT:

  • Check the "Get My Payment" tool: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

    • If you have not received your payment and the Get My Payment tool says that it was direct deposited into your account, verify the last four digits of the bank account.

      • If you received a BANK PRODUCT last year (if Pelican's fee was taken out of your refund), your Get My Payment tool may show an unfamiliar bank account. This is due to the bank product service intercepting your refund as part of the process that takes our fee from your refund. The IRS is working to correct this and asks for your patience.

    • If it says that your payment has been mailed, it could take 3-4 weeks for you to receive it.

    • If the "Get My Payment" tool does not show any payment pending, we can resolve it by using the Recovery Rebate Credit when we file your taxes. Your payment may not be showing if:

      • You mailed in your 2019 tax return

      • Did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019

      • You are not eligible to receive a payment

        • E-filing begins on February 12, but we can prepare your taxes before that date and e-file them at the earliest opportunity. We do encourage clients to keep checking the "Get My Payment" tool in the meantime (it is updated each day, overnight), and to let us know if the status of your stimulus changes, so that we can advise you on how to best proceed with your tax return.

You should expect to receive a form 1444-B in the mail which will tell you how much stimulus you *should have* received. If it says it was direct deposited into your account, verify the last four digits of the account number.

Eligibility: Who qualifies for an Economic Impact Payment (EIP)?

  • Taxpayers who cannot be claimed as a dependent of another

  • Taxpayers with a valid SSN or ITIN

  • Taxpayers who are married or is a with an adjusted gross income of $150,000

  • Taxpayers who are a qualifying widow/er with an adjusted gross income of $150,000 or less

  • Taxpayers who file as head of household with an adjusted gross income of $112,000 or less

  • Taxpayers who use any other filing status with an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less

A qualifying child must be:

  • 17 or under during the entirety of 2020 (ask Pelican how claiming your child as a dependent will affect your family's stimulus payments and future tax returns!)

  • The child lived with you for more than half of the year

  • For additional criteria, visit the IRS EIP Round 2 FAQ page.

Pelican will advise you to wait the 3-4 weeks to receive your stimulus payment before we e-file your taxes. This is because we want to make sure that your taxes are done accurately. Please be aware: If you receive the second stimulus AFTER your taxes have been e-filed, you will have to amend your tax return.

When you arrive for your tax appointment, please let us know the amounts of each stimulus payment that you have received. If you have not received the first or second rounds of stimulus and qualify for it, we can resolve the issue using the Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return (hence the cautionary statement above). Do remember that mailed payments can take up to a month after the payment issue date you see on the "Get My Payment" tool before you receive it.
