For those of us who E-File our tax returns, we might want to start preparing ourselves now for delays in the tax process this year. As the IRS prepares to handle the issues that come with a new set of tax laws, forms, and schedules, I've been told at my most recent tax seminars that we shouldn't expect IRS to accept an E-filed return until January 27th, 2019.
That's quite the delay, and it means that many of us won't see our refunds come across until the middle of February. Those of us who file for certain tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the American Opportunity Credit, have been advised to prepare to wait until the end of February before inquiring as to the status of our refunds. While this news is unwelcome for most, it doesn't mean that we should delay in filing. The sooner you file, the sooner you should see your taxes come into your bank accounts.
If waiting for your return is something that sounds unappealing to you, Pelican can help! We will be offering a service that allows you to get a portion of your tax refund up front, with the rest of it deposited when the IRS finalizes your tax return.
For the Self Employed who aren't waiting on W2s or other tax forms, now is the time to start getting organized. January is usually the slowest month for any tax prepares office during tax season, with a huge ramp up during February and March. If you have a lot of book keeping to catch up on, now might be the time to get your old months in order, so you can hit the ground running as soon as tax season begins.
At Pelican, we offer full and comprehensive tax services to business owners who might need some help getting caught back up in time for tax season, as well as family affordable prices on our business returns, for self employed individuals AND Corporations and Partnerships. If you need assistance, want to schedule an appointment for tax season, or just talk over any concerns you might have, either send us an email (pelicantaxservices@gmail.com) or give us a call at (405) 265-7611.
